Nagbabala kahapon ang dating Philippine National Police (PNP) chief na si Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magiging “very dangerous” kung makikialam ang militar sa mga operasyon kontra droga at kung ito mismo ang tutugis sa mga tiwaling pulis.
“I’ll stand up against it because it would be chaotic if the one that would check on the anomalies of policemen would be the military,” sinabi ni Lacson sa press briefing kahapon.
“We might end up having armed people—legitimate armed forces—who would be fighting each other. Remember, its not only the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) which is armed, even the PNP is an armed force,” ayon sa senador. “It would be better if the national police itself conducts the internal cleansing against their scalawag members.”
Ito ang reaksiyon ng senador makaraang ihayag ng Pangulo nitong Martes sa oath-taking ng 65 bagong opisyal ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa Malacañang na ipaaaresto niya sa militar ang mga police scalawag, maging ang mga sangkot sa droga.

Sinabi ni Duterte na kapag hindi niya ipinasok ang mga sundalo ay tiyak na wala nang titingin sa mga abusadong pulis, at idinagdag na malala na ang kultura ng kurapsiyon sa PNP.
Iginiit din ng Pangulo na wala nang isa mang pulis ang magsasagawa ng operasyon kontra droga, dahil pangangasiwaan na ito ng AFP at ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), habang isinasagawa ang reorganisasyon sa PNP.
“The only guys there who can really go after the drug lords now are the PDEA and the Armed Forces, a selected few.
They are the only ones who can operate now on drugs, para wala nang kalokohan,” ani Duterte.
Nababahala rin si Sen. Leila de Lima sa pagpapakilos ni Duterte sa militar sa pagpapatino sa PNP at sa pagsasagawa ng drug war.
Aniya, ipinatupad na ng Pangulo ang “emergency power” ng Commander-in-Chief, na nakasaad sa ating saligang-batas sa pagtalaga sa AFP para makisali sa laban kontra droga.
“The problem here is that the President has wittingly drawn in the military to his Tokhang program, thus putting civil society in a bind of whether to choose the devil they know, of the PNP doing Tokhang, or the devil they don’t know, the AFP implementing the same murderous Tokhang operations,” ani De Lima.
Batay sa huling bilang, umabot na sa mahigit 7,000 katao ang napapatay sa Oplan Tokhang ng PNP.
