Hinimok ng New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) ang United Nations (UN) na pangunahan ang independent international investigation sa pagkamatay ng mahigit 7,000 katao sa “war on drugs” ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Iginiit ng HRW kay UN Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez na wala pang pulis o miyembro ng vigilante group na sangkot sa pagpatay ng drug users at pushers ang naaresto o nahatulan simula nang maupo sa puwesto si Duterte noong Hunyo 30, 2016.
“The Philippine police won’t seriously investigate themselves, so the UN should take the lead in conducting an investigation,” sabi Phelim Kine, HRW deputy Asia director.
“Unless there is an independent international investigation into these killings, and soon, the already long list of grave rights violations linked to the ‘drug war’ will only continue to grow,” dagdag niya.

Binatikos ni Kine si Duterte sa hindi paghingi ng tawad sa daan-daang namatay sa anti-drug war, na ayon sa Pangulo ay “collateral damage.”
“Since July 1, more than 7,000 Filipinos have been killed in Duterte’s anti-drug campaign. However, not a single police officer is known to have been prosecuted for extrajudicial executions or related crimes,“ ani Kine.
