Ilang araw bago ang nakatakdang pag-upo sa White House ni US President-elect Donald Trump, nangako ang United States na patuloy na susuportahan ang Pilipinas sa mga larangan ng maritime security, law enforcement, development aid sa Mindanao, at iba pa, bilang bahagi ng kanilang matatag na bilateral relations.
Ito ang ipinaabot ni US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim sa kanilang “very productive” na pagpupulong ni President Duterte sa Davao City nitong Linggo, ayon kay Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella.
“He reiterated the commitment of the US to the bilateral relationship with the RP which he described as ‘solid,’” ani Abella.
“Citing cooperation in law enforcement, Amb. Sung Kim stressed that the US will continue to provide support, including intelligence exchange and in maritime security,” aniya.
Sinabi ni Abella na tinalakay din ng US ambassador ang US-Philippines military cooperation, partikular na ang paglaban sa terorismo, at ang lawak ng tulong ng US sa Mindanao.
Nagpulong ang Pangulo at ang US envoy matapos pamunuan ni Duterte ang paglulunsad ng chairmanship ng Pilipinas sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) sa Davao City. “The US Ambassador congratulated the PH on its assumption of the ASEAN hosting and looked forward to a successful leadership,” aniya.
“It was a very productive meeting marked by an open exchange of ideas,” dagdag niya. (GENALYN D. KABILING)
