Umaasa ang ating gobyerno ng “more fruitful achievements” sa pagpapaigting ng pagtutulungan para sa kapayapaan, seguridad at kaunlaran sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit na ilulunsad ngayong Linggo.

Pangungunahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ngayong Lunes ang paglulunsad sa chairmanship ng Pilipinas sa ASEAN Summit at iba pang pulong sa Davao City.

May temang “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”, ang ASEAN Summit ngayong taon ay kasabay ng ika-50 anibersaryo ng pagkakatatag ng regional bloc na binubuo ng 10 bansa sa Southeast Asia.

“We appreciate and celebrate the fact that we are taking on the ASEAN leadership, chairmanship for this particular year and we look forward to a more fruitful, truly more fruitful achievements this coming year especially on regional cooperation,” sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella nang kapanayamin kahapon sa radyo.

Setyembre 2016 nang ipasa sa Pilipinas ang ASEAN chairmanship mula sa Laos sa isang seremonya sa Vientiane.

Nang mga panahong iyon, sinabi ni Duterte na handa ang Pilipinas na pangunahan at gabayan ang ASEAN.

“We will pursue initiatives and enhance cooperation with global partners to ensure that ASEAN citizens live in peace, stability, security and growth, while maintaining ASEAN centrality, unity and solidarity for all times,” anang Pangulo.

PRIORIDAD ANG MAHIHIRAP

Sinabi naman ni Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, kasalukuyang chairperson ng ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), na gagawin ng Pilipinas na isang people-oriented institution ang ASEAN sa pagtugon sa mga usaping mas malapit sa puso ng mahihirap at mga karaniwang tao.

“We want to make the ASEAN more relevant to the lives of poor and ordinary citizens by highlighting issues that concern them, with the end goal to forge agreements to uphold their welfare and improve their quality of life,” ani Taguiwalo.

SEGURIDAD TINIYAK

Samantala, tutulong naman ang Joint Task Force Haribon ng Armed Forces of the Philippines-Eastern Mindanao Command (AFP-EasMinCom) sa Philippine National Police (PNP) sa pagtiyak sa seguridad ng paglulunsad sa ASEAN Summit 2017 ngayong Linggo.

Sa paunang tala, nasa 600 tauhan ng Philippine Air Force (PAF), Philippine Navy (PN) at Philippine Army (PA) ang idadagdag sa 1,000 operatiba na ipinakalat upang magbantay sa iba’t ibang aktibidad na may kinalaman sa okasyon.
