SA isang e-mail na ipinadala ni Noel Ferrer, spokesperson ng 2016 MMFF, nabanggit na, “Any figures released are unofficial and erroneous.”
Kasama sa letter ang part na, “It therefore pains us to discover that someone has acted selfishly in promoting their own interests to the detriment of the other producers.
“In violation of the festival’s rules and regulations, someone released, to members of the press and via social media, figures they purport to be the true and final box office grosses. THESE NUMBERS ARE UNOFFICIAL AND ERRONEOUS.”
Dapat daw na may retraction sa media releases tungkol sa box office gross ng MMFF entries. Pero parang wala kaming nabasang bumawi sa lumabas na box office gross.

Dahil dito, hindi tuloy namin alam kung paniniwalaan ang nabanggit ni Sen. Tito Sotto sa isang interview na hindi umabot sa P300M ang total gross ng MMFF movies sa filmfest na tumakbo ng sampung araw.
May nag-text naman na more or less, P400M ang gross ng 2016 MMFF. Kahit hindi nangalahati sa P1.050B na gross sa 2015 MMFF, masaya pa rin ang MMFF Executive Committee dahil na-achieve ang hangarin nilang magagandang pelikula ang maipalabas. (NITZ MIRALLES)
