May plano ang mga royal family mula sa mga bansa sa Middle East na upahan ang ilang isla sa Pilipinas at magbukas ng economic zone sa mga ito, ayon sa bagong hepe ng Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni PEZA Director General Charito B. Plaza na nais ng mga royal family mula sa Qatar at sa Dubai, United Arab Emirates na mamuhunan sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng pagbubukas ng mga economic zone sa ilang isla sa bansa.
“I had the opportunity to talk to the members of the royal families in Qatar and Dubai. Most of the sheikhs and the kings are into real estate business. They signified to us that they will be coming over to invest through PEZA. And we offered to them our islands,” sabi ni Plaza.
“They’re coming over next week and they’re going to do their first exploration of how the Philippine investments are going to be,” dagdag niya.

Aniya, pinag-aaralan ng mga royal family na magbukas ng mga oil deposit facility at refineries sa ilang isla sa bansa.
Plano rin ng mga potential investor na magbukas ng mga agro-industrial, agro-forestry, at tourism economic zone sa mga mapipiling isla, bukod pa sa balak ding mag-develop ng mga siyudad sa Pilipinas, ayon kay Plaza.
“PEZA is now exploring the Middle East market,” ani Plaza. “They’re so interested to lease our agricultural lands because they’re a desert. They’re importing agricultural products from other countries.”
Nilinaw naman ng bagong PEZA chief na pinahihintulutan ng batas ang gobyerno na magpaupa ng mga lupain at isla.
“It’s allowed by law that we can lease our lands and islands for 75 years; lease only but [they] cannot buy,” paglilinaw ni Plaza.
Sinabi ni Plaza na nakikipag-ugnayan na ngayon ang PEZA sa National Mapping and Resource Information Authority para sa imbentaryo ng mga isla sa bansa upang matukoy kung alin sa mga ito ang maaaring ialok para paupahan sa mga royal family na nais mamuhunan sa Pilipinas. (PNA)
