PARIS (AP) — Sa pagtatapos ng linggo, inaasahanang makukuha ni Briton tennis star Andy Murray ang pagiging top-ranked player sa mundo sa kaun-unahang pagkakataon.

Mula nang makopo ang No. 2 sa tennis ranking may pitong taon na ang nakalilipas, bigo ang 29-anyos na si Murray na maagaw ang liderato mula sa matitikas na sina Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal at Novak Djokovic.

Sa ngayon, abot-kamay ni Murray ang No. 1 ranking. Magagawa niyang palitan si Djokovic sa top ranking sakaling manalo siya sa Paris Masters at mabigo si Djokovic na makarating sa final.

“It’s not in my control ... Even if I win all of my matches this week, I still might not get there,” sambit ni Murray.

“It’s in Novak’s hands. I don’t feel any differently now to how I did six, eight weeks ago. My goal wasn’t to finish No. 1 at the end of this year,” aniya.

“There (was) a lot stronger chance of doing it in the early part of next year, which is what I (had) targeted — rather than this week.”

“I do deserve to be there,” pahayag ni Murray. The last four or five months I have played the best of my career.”

Makakaharap ni Murray, nabigo kay Djokovic sa nakalipas na taon sa Paris Masters final, si Fernando Verdasco sa second round.
