Asam ni national player Sarah Joy Barredo ang back-to-back title sa pagsabak nito sa sasambulat na P 1.5 million Bingo Bonanza National Badminton Open simula Oktubre 17 hanggang 23 sa CW Home Depot Ortigas at SM Mega Mall sa Pasig City.

Si Barredo, kinukunsidera na isa sa magaling na batang atleta sa nakalipas na tatlong taon, ay umaasa na muling mapagreynahan ang women’s open singles division bagaman inaasahan nitong dadaan sa maraming balakid sa taunang torneo na sanctioned ng Philippine Badminton Association (PBA).

“I expect all the best players will be competing this year in Bingo Bonanza, so I also expect this season will be tougher than last year,” sabi ng 16-anyos na si Barredo. “But I’m really up to the challenge. I’m training very hard. I’m ready to compete and win another title.”

“In God’s will, I will give my best shot in this annual prestigious badminton tournament.”

Tinalo ni Barredo ang kapwa national player na si Airah Mae Nicole Albo sa nakaraang taon na finals, 15-21, 21-16 at 21-6 victory.

Maliban kay Barredo at Albo, ang iba pang kasali na sina Christine Inlayo, Gelita Castillo at Malvinne “Poca” Alcala ang magbibigay dito ng matinding hamon.

Sasagupa naman sa men’s open singles division ng torneo na suportado ng Bingo Bonanza Corp ang mga national players na sina Kevin Cudiamat, R-Jay Ormilla, Alvin Morada, Kenneth Monterubio, Paul Vivas at Peter Magnaye.

“I feel non-national team members will also shine in this tournament, so we have to work hard also,” sabi ni Cudiamat. “We can’t be complacent.”

Si Mark Alcala ang nagtatanggol na kampeon sa men’s singles open.

Nakataya ang premyo sa men at women’s singles sa P100,000 bawat isa at P120,000 para sa men’s doubles, women’s doubles at mixed doubles. Maliban sa cash prizes ay makukuha din ang tournament ranking points.
