“I’m sorry.” Ito ang pahayag ni Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, kaugnay ng pagkakabulok ng relief goods ng ahensya at ibinaon na lamang sa isang dumpsite sa Dumaguete City kamakailan.

Sinabi ng Kalihim na labis-labis ang kanyang panghihinayang sa nasirang relief goods na nag-expire noon pang Hunyo 2016, isang buwan bago umupo sa pagkapangulo si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Sinabi naman ni Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero ng DSWD-National Capital Region (NCR) na nitong nakalipas na Setyembre 2 lamang nila itinapon ang mga nabubulok na relief goods na aabot sa P170,981.20 ang halaga, sa isang open dumpsite sa Barangay Candauay sa Dumaguete City, Negros Occidental.

Ito ay matapos ang kanilang koordinasyon sa Department of Health (DoH), Commission on Audit (COA), at Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) ng lungsod.

“I apologize to the public that this has happened. We have been trying the last three months under the new administration to assure people that what happened in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda — when rice meant for the typhoon survivors were allowed to spoil and then had to be buried secretly – would never happen again, So it is very disappointing that this happened,” sabi pa ni Taguiwalo.
