NAGSAGAWA ang Department of Health (DoH)-MIMAROPA ng dalawang-araw na orientation para sa mga health worker, lokal na opisyal, at mga miyembro ng Philippine National Police (PNP) para sa screening, assessment, at referral ng mga drug dependent sa Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
“Due to the increasing number of drug users who are voluntarily surrendering to authorities, we need to maximize and provide an immediate response system that will provide them medical support and be taken care of right away,”inihayag ni DoH-MIMAROPA Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo.
Binubuo ang MIMAROPA ng mga islang probinsya ng Oriental/Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, at Palawan.
“Once they submitted themselves and have been processed accordingly, they must directly undergo a wellness treatment in order for them not to have a relapse. Delay in their rehabilitation might cause them to return to their regular drug habits,” ani Dr. Janairo.
Sa huling datos noong Agosto 24, 2016, ang Oriental Mindoro ang may pinakamaraming sumuko na drug user sa rehiyon na may kabuuang 9,147; 3,188 sa Occidental Mindoro; 4,175 sa Palawan; 819 sa Romblon; at 745 sa Marinduque.
Ayon kay Janairo, sasailalim sa orientation ang mga health worker sa buong rehiyon, kabilang ang mga lokal na pamahalaan at mga pulis, na may direktang kaugnayan sa facilitation at referral ng drug rehabilitation, upang epektibo at maayos nilang mapangasiwaan ang sitwasyon.
Maaaring ipasa ng PNP ang mga gumagamit ng ilegal na droga na walang nakabimbin na kasong kriminal at hindi na kailangan ng kahit anong medical treatment sa ibang mga ahensiya na maaaring makapagbigay ng mga pangkabuhayang programa, pagsasanay, at iba pang uri ng ayuda.
Ipinaliwanag ni Dr. Janairo na maaaring magtungo sa mga health center ang mga nais ng medical treatment para sumailalim ng screening, basic assessment ng kanilang kalusugan, diagnosis, intervention, treatment o referral ng mga kasabay na sakit na resulta ng paggamit ng ilegal na droga tulad ng TB, HIV, at iba pang sakit sa utak.
“We are in the process of developing an after-care program for these drug dependents because it more essential than the treatment process. In addition, there are only six DOH-accredited physicians in MIMAROPA who are trained in drug dependence evaluation,“ aniya.
“DoH-MIMAROPA, in collaboration with LGUs, has been fast-tracking the organization of rehabilitation centers in the whole region which will be opened this year to accommodate those needing drug treatment and rehabilitation,” dagdag pa nito. (PNA)
