‘Wag nang sisihin si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at walang kinalaman sa paghina ng piso ang mga pahayag nito kamakailan laban sa United Nations, United States at sa European Union, nilinaw ni Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno kahapon.
“It has nothing to do with the President’s statements,” sabi ni Diokno sa press briefing sa Malacañang.
Kamakailan ay binira ni Pangulong Duterte ang UN, US at EU sa pakikialam ng mga ito sa pinaigting na kampanya ng pamahalaan laban sa ilegal na droga.

Ipinaliwanag ni Diokno na bumaba ang halaga ng Philippine peso at iba pang salapi partikular na sa Southeast Asia dahil sa pagtaas ng interest rate ng Federal Reserve.
”Depreciation of peso is a result of the strengthening of dollar more than the weakening of the peso and why is the dollar strengthened? Because of the impending increase in the interest rate by the Fed. This has been ongoing for several quarters already,” sabi ni Diokno sa media.
Noong Lunes, bumaba ang Philippine peso sa P48.25 kontra US dollar, ang pinakamababa nito sa loob ng pitong taon.
Gayunman, nilinaw ni Diokno na hindi dapat ikabahala ang paghina ng piso.
”For me, it is not a big deal. We have seen the peso going to PHP55 in the past,” sabi ng opisyal ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
”The other fear is that the depreciation of the peso will result in higher inflation. This is misplaced. The official inflation target is two to four percent. We are much lower than two,” dagdag niya.
Tiniyak niya na sapat ang reserbang dolyar ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas na nasa USD85.7 billion. (PNA)
