UMANI ng suporta ang pagsusulong ng ecotourism sa Taal mula sa pagtutulungan ng Globe Telecom at ng non-profit environmental organization na Pusod, Inc., na magkasamang nagtatrabaho para palakasin ang mga komunidad sa palibot ng lawa sa pamamagitan ng mga edukasyong pangkapaligiran at mga sustainable enterprise.
Isa sa mga pangunahing programang isinasagawa ng Globe at Pusod para talakayin ang mga isyung pangkalikasan sa lugar ay ang pagtataguyod ng ecotourism sa pamamagitan ng Taal Lake Conservation Center (TLCC), na nagbibigay ng alternatibong low-impact para sa commercial tourism at nagmumungkahi ng pangangalaga sa ecosystem.
Bilang resulta ng pagsasamahan, tumaas ang kita ng TLCC, mula sa P40,000 sa una nitong taon, nagtala ang TLCC ng taunang kita na P600,000 sa pagtatapos ng 2015.
Itinatag ang pasilidad nito ng Pusod, kasama ang pamahalaang bayan ng Mataas Na Kahoy, Batangas at TVPL Protected Area Management Board, noong 2011. Nagsisilbi ang TLCC bilang knowledge hub para sa mga pag-aaral na isinasagawa sa TVPL at pinangangasiwaan ang programa sa ecotourism sa pakikipagtulungan sa Globe Citizenship.
Inaalok ng program ang Community Walking Tours, Heritage Tours, Knowledge Tours sa bahagi ng Calawit ng Volcano Island at iba pang low impact water sports – Kayaking, Oz Goose Sailing, Stand Up Paddling.
“It continues to find ways of cooperation to protect the environment and support sustainable livelihood and conservation, thereby, giving birth to our partnership with Pusod which shares the same environmental values as Globe. Through our joint efforts, we are able to create positive impact across the value chain—from the community-based tour guides, boat operators, horse guides, local caterer, and community volunteers,” sabi ni Fernando Esguerra, director ng Globe Citizenship.
“Lakes take a long time to respond to conservation measures. Those that are still connected deeply with the livelihood that the lake provides are less and less reliant on it. It prompted us to take action because a lot of people really depend on the lake for livelihood. The only way we can really save the lake is if they take pride in it,” ani Atty. Ipat Luna, executive trustee at founding member ng Pusod, Inc.
Dagdag pa ni Ann Hazel Javier, executive director ng Pusod, Inc.: “We work with communities and tell them more about the ecosystem where they are and to eventually help them to protect it and create enterprises around them. We started with the ecotourism program. We have built capacities for the people in the volcano island whose main motivation is really to help conserve and protect the ecosystem.”
Nagbibigay din ng TLCC tours, sinisigurado na ang mga lokal na komunidad ay mabibigyang benepisyo bilang tour at boat guides o food caterers. Kabilang sa tours ang full briefing sa lake region at history ng pagputok ng bulkan, boat ride mula Kinalaglagan, Mataas na Kahoy patungong Calawit, Balete sa Volcano Island at horse ride o pag-akyat kasama ang isang local guide, insurance, meryenda at tanghalian na may Batangas fusion cuisine at local refreshments, user fees at a conservation contribution. Hinihimok din ang mga bisita na makisali sa pangangalaga sa lawa. (PNA)
