Hinatulan ng Sandiganbayan na makulong ng 10 taon si dating Buguey, Cagayan Mayor Ignacio Taruc dahil sa kasong graft dahil sa hindi pagpapasuweldo sa apat niyang kawani noong 2007, ayon sa Office of the Ombudsman.
Bukod sa makukulong, diniskuwalipika na rin si Taruc sa pagseserbisyo sa gobyerno.
Ayon sa Ombudsman, nagprisinta ang prosekusyon ng mga dokumento na nagpapakita “that complainants are entitled to receive their salaries as they have valid appointments” at “that they rendered services for the months of July and August 2007, as shown by their respective daily time record and employee logbook.”
Sa desisyon nito, binigyang-diin ng korte na ang “accused demonstrated his perverse motive or ill-will to complainants, known appointees of his political rival, by his refusal to sign the check [ng suweldo nila].”
