Malayo ang posibilidad na mapatalsik sa Malacañang si incoming President Rodrigo Duterte.
Ito ang naging pagtaya ni House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., vice chairman ng Liberal Party (LP), na sinasabing nagpaplanong patalsikin sa puwesto sa Duterte.
“Let’s face it, the chances of (impeachment) is zero and nobody would even think of it. Let’s give the new President a chance to run the country without talk of impeachment or anything like that being uttered by anybody from any political party,” pahayag ni Belmonte .
Muling nahalal bilang kinatawan ng Ikaapat na Distrito ng Quezon City, pinangunahan ni Belmonte ang inagurasyon ng tansong rebulto ni Dr. Jose Rizal na nilikha ni National Artist Guillermo Tolentino, kasama ang orihinal na kopya ng 1935 Constitution.

Ito na ang huling pagharap ni Belmonte bilang leader ng Kamara de Representantes na kanyang pinamunuan sa 15th at 16th Congress.
“I myself had been part of a number of impeachment proceedings, kay Erap, kay Corona and the aborted one of Gutierrez and definitely, I don’t see any reason whatsoever for the President (Duterte) to fear this (impeachment). [He should] include this in his thinking,” sabi ni Belmonte.
Inaasahang papalitan si Belmonte bilang House speaker ni Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, kilalang malapit na kaibigan ni Duterte, sa pagbubukas ng 17th Congress sa Hulyo 25.
Si Alvarez ang tumatayong secretary general ng Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), habang si Duterte ang chairman ng partido. (Ellson A. Quismorio)
