Hiniling ng consumer group na Bigwas sa Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), at sa iba pang ahensiya ng gobyerno, na imbestigahan ang miyembro ng Cement Manufacturing Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) na umano’y umangkat ng 28,000 metriko-tonelada ng cement clinker na lulan sa Panamanian-registered cargo vessel na sumadsad kamakailan sa bahura ng Monad Shoal sa Cebu at sumira sa may tatlong ektaryang coral reefs.
“We are disturbed why suddenly cement makers in the Philippines who were very noisy about alleged smuggling of cement in the Philippines has been silent about the destruction of coral reefs in a popular dive spot in Daanbantayan town in Cebu,” sabi ni Bigwas Secretary General Nancy dela Peña.
Akusasyon ni Dela Peña, tinangka ng isang opisyal ng kumpanya na itago umano ang isyu sa pagsadsad ng MV Belle Rose sa Cebu dahil miyembro, aniya, ng CeMAP ang sangkot. (Beth Camia)
