HINIHIKAYAT ng Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) ng environment department ang mga kabataan na makiisa sa month-long Month of the Ocean (MOO) quizzes sa Facebook ngayong Mayo, ayon sa ulat ng Philippine News Agency (PNA).
Bukod sa pagtulong sa pagpapalaganap ng karagdagang kaalaman tungkol sa karagatan, sinabi ng BMB na ang mga partisipante ay may tsansang makiisa sa science camp sa Puerto Galera sa susunod na buwan.
“Target audience for the contests are students at the secondary and tertiary levels,” sambit ng BMB, tinutukoy ang 15 hanggang 20 taong gulang.
Labing-walong katao ang inaasahang mananalo.

Isa lamang ang quizzes sa mga aktibidad ng BMB ngayong Mayo para sa 2016 celebration ng MOO.
Ang tema ng MOO ngayong taon na ‘Biodiversity for Food SeaCUREity’ ay layuning ipaunawa ang kahalagahan ng marine biodiversity sa food security ng buing bansa, ayon kay BMB Director Theresa Mundita Lim.
Kapag pinabayaan ang marine biodiversity, siguradong maaapektuha ang ating pagkain, babala niya.
“Our oceans are part of ecosystems diversity together with forests, islands and seas which include mangroves, sea grass beds, coral reefs and mud flats - all these should be cared for because they have their own vital functions and roles in the development of the agriculture and fisheries sectors and other marine-based livelihood,” ayon sa press release ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“Coastal and marine ecosystems of the country collectively support fisheries worth over Php 120 billion per annum representing more than 4.3 percent of GDP,” pahayag pa ni BMB, base sa 1997 study.
