Inamin ni Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Emmanuel Caparas na matitigil na ang imbestigasyon sa extra-judicial killings na ibinibintang sa grupong Davao Death Squad (DDS).
“When the facts are there, when the evidence is there, the witnesses are there and presented formally and there’s proof then we can investigate that. Then we can proceed to do what’s appropriate,” sinabi ni Caparas nitong Biyernes.
Gayunman, sinabi ng kalihim na wala na sa poder ng Do Jang kaisa-isang testigo sa pagsisiyasat na nagpakilala bilang dating miyembro ng DDS.
Ang hinalinhan ni Caparas na si Senator-elect Leila De Lima ang naglunsad ng imbestigasyon sa DDS, na matagal nang iniuugnay kay presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte.

Ngayon, sinabi ni Caparas na nag-iwan lang ng mga affidavit ang testigo tungkol sa mga nalalaman nito sa DDS.
“There are affidavits but you know, if you want to confirm the affidavit you have to talk to the witness,” paliwanag ng kalihim, idinagdag na mahalaga ring suportahan ng mga ebidensiya ang testimonya ng testigo.
Sinabi ni Caparas na hindi niya alam kung bakit umalis ang testigo sa witness protection program ng DoJ, na voluntary ang pagpapasailalim, kaya posible, aniya, na kusa ring umalis ang testigo. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
