Pinuri ng Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) si presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte sa plano nitong magtalaga ng mga makakaliwang personalidad sa Gabinete, kabilang ang susunod na kalihim ng Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE).
Itinuring ng KMU ang plano ni Duterte bilang malaking hakbang sa pagpigil sa sistematikong pang-aabuso, pang-aapi at panggigipit sa mga obrero sa bansa.
“We would welcome the appointment of anyone who is genuinely pro-worker, nationalist, and progressive to the Labor post. We, Filipino workers, have been suffering for so long, we need all the help we can get, including an ally or even allies at the Labor Department,” ayon kay KMU Secretary General Jerome Adonis.
“Welcoming the appointment of such an individual to the Labor post does not in any way mean that we will pin our hopes on him or her,” dagdag niya.

Ito ay bilang reaksiyon sa pahayag ni Duterte nitong Lunes na hindi siya mag-aatubiling kumuha ng mga personalidad mula sa Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) upang pamunuan hindi lamang ang DoLE, kundi maging ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), at Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
Umaasa ang militanteng grupo na itatalaga ni Duterte sa DoLE ang magsusulong ng National Minimum Wage, tutuldukan ang malawakang contractual employment, itataguyod ang mga unyon ng manggagawa, at poprotektahan ang kaligtasan at kalusugan ng mga obrero. (SAMUEL P. MEDENILLA)
