Bago matapos ang Mayo, maglulunsad ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) ng isang electronic filing at payment system para sa mga dayuhang nais palawigin ang kanilang pananatili sa bansa.
Para sa proyekto, lumagda si BI Commissioner Ronaldo Geron sa isang memorandum of agreement kasama ang Global Payments Asia, subsidiary ng Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), ang pinakamalaking online service provider sa bansa.
“The online payment system will provide a convenient way to our clients to conduct their businesses in the bureau,” ani Geron.
Sinabi ni Geron na hindi na kailangang magtungo at pumila sa BI main office ang mga dayuhang nais palawigin ang kanilang visa.

“All (foreigners) they have to do is to log on to the immigration website, www.immigration.gov.ph, fill up the form for visa extension, pay the amount through their credit card and wait for the printable receipts,” sabi ni Geron.
Nakasaad din sa resibo ang petsa na pupunta sa BI main office ang kliyente para tatakan ang pasaporte nito.
Idinagdag din ng BI chief na mabilis at ligtas ang e-payment scheme, bukod pa sa walang gagastusin ang gobyerno sa proyekto at nasa P300 lang ang minimal fee sa bawat dayuhang registrant. (Jun Ramirez)
