Sa kabila ng presensya ng 10 foreign teams, nangibabaw ang local clubs sa ginanap na 10th Boracay International Dragon Boat Festival sa Boracay.
May kabuuang limang koponan na nakabase dito, habang tatlo mula sa Manila at tig-isa mula sa Cebu at Dumaguete ang namayani laban sa kani-kanilang foreigh rivals.
Tanging ang Singapore Barbarians Team A, B, at C at BGC Stormy Dragons ang nakalusot sa ratsada ng Pinoy paddlers.
Nagwagi ang Singapore Barbarians Team A sa women’s 500-meter at 250-meter standard boat races, gayundin sa Mixed International Standard Boat competition.
Olympian boxer Eumir Marcial, di nagpatalo kay Carlos Yulo, nag-crop top na rin!
Namayani naman ang BGC Stormy Dragons sa Women’s and Masters 250-meter small boat.
“Through the years, the Boracay dragon boat races have gained a name for themselves as the event to attend among the dragon boat community worldwide,” pahayag ni Gigi Piit ng organizing Boracay Island Paddlers Association (BIPA).
Sa kabila nito, malakas ang hatak ng torneo sa mga foreign athlete itinuturing na pinakamalaking dragon boat race tournament ang torneo sa bansa.
“Many events in different parts of the Philippines have tried to make their event international, but foreign teams do not participate. It is only in Boracay where they participate with increasing numbers of paddlers each time,” ayon kay Piit.
Umabot sa kabuuang 21 koponan ang sumabak sa karera, kabilang ang nagmula sa China, Hong Kong, Singapore, US, at Dubai.
