Nakatakdang magtungo ngayong umaga sa Supreme Court si Pampanga Representative Joseller “Yeng” Guiao upang hilingin na maipagkaloob sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ang nararapat nitong matanggap na tulong na pondo mula sa Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Ayon kay Guiao, isusumite niya ang mga dokumento na magpapatunay na hindi naibibigay sa PSC ang dapat sana’y limang porsiyento sa ‘gross income’ ng Pagcor kada buwan. Ito’y makasaad, aniya, sa Republic Act 6847.

Sinabi ni PSC Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr na matapos ipasa mismo ni Guiao, Vice-Chairman ng House Committee on Youth, Games and Sports, agad itong magtutungo sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum sa Shakey’s Malate upang ipaliwanag ang nasabing proseso.

Kasama sa kahilingan ang ilang mambabatas na umaapela sa Mataas na Hukuman para sa lehitimong pagpapasiya hinggil sa matagal na kinukuwestiyon na dapat na matanggap na pondo para sa sports.

“It has been a point of serious debate and we hope that with the help of Congressman Guaio, we will be enlighten on one of the prime concerns which is the stated 5% percent gross for the agency,” sabi ni Iroy Jr. .

Nakasaad naman sa Republic Act 6847 o ang batas na nagbuo sa PSC partikular sa Section 26 ang tungkol sa funding at mga paraan para sa pagpopondo ng ahensiya sa sports ng bansa.

“To finance the country’s integrated sports development program, including the holding of the national games and other sports competitions at top level throughout the country as well as the country’s participation at international sports competitions, such as, but not limited to, the Olympics, Asian and Southeast Asian Games, and all other international competitions, sanctioned by the International Olympic.
