Isang senior Pinoy diplomat ang nahalal bilang chairman ng United Nation Committee on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (CMW).

Ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), ibinoto ng mga miyembro ng komite si dating undersecretary Jose Brillantes sa idinaos na halalan sa 24th session nito sa Geneva, Switzerland noong Abril 19. Manunungkulan si Brillantes hanggang sa Disyembre 31, 2017.

An CMW ay binubuo ng 14 na independent expert na sumusubaybay sa implementasyon ng International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families sa bawat kasaping bansa.

Mainit na tinanggap ni Ambassador Cecilia Rebong, ang Permanent Representative ng Pilipinas sa UN Office sa Geneva, ang pagkakahalal ni Brillantes.

“This is an honor not only to Undersecretary Brillantes but also for the Philippines. It is also a recognition of the high priority the Philippines places on protecting the rights and promoting the welfare of Filipino migrant workers,” sabi ni Rebong.

Ang 78-anyos na si Brillantes ay nagsilbing DFA Undersecretary for Special and Ocean Concerns at naging ambassador ng Pilipinas sa Malaysia at Canada. ( BELLA GAMOTEA)
