INIMBITAHAN ang local film producers at filmmakers ng MMDA kamakailan upang ipakilala ang bagong set ng executive committee ng taunang Metro Manila Film Festival.

Naganap ang “consultation meeting” noong April 6 sa Manila City Room ng MMDA Building sa Makati City. Pinag-usapan ang “revitalized thrust and objectives of MMFF”, pati na ang importanteng rules and regulations.

Ang new set of MMFF Committee ay binubuo nina:

1. Alfred Vargas (actor, QC congressman)

2. Jesse Ejercito (veteran producer; retained from the original MMFF Execom)

3. Briccio Santos (Film Development Council of the Philippines)

4. Senator Sonny Angara

5. Emerson Carlos (MMDA Chairman, spearheads the annual festival) 

6. Atty. Eugenio “Toto” Villareal (MTRCB Chairman)

7. Moira Lang (independent scriptwriter-producer)

8. Wilson Tieng (Movie Producers Distributors Association of the Philippines)

9. Marcus Ng (Metro Manila Theaters Association)

10. Boots Anson-Roa (Movie Workers Welfare Foundation; retained from the original MMFF Execom)

11. Edward Cabagnot (academe)

12. Edgar Tejerero (SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc.)

13. Joel Pagdilao (Philippine National Police)

14. Jun Romana (Bureau of Broadcast Services)

Sa nasabing meeting, isa sa mga pinagtalunan/tinalakay ang proseso ng pagpili ng makakapasok sa “Magic 8” o walong official entries ng MMFF -- kung script or screenplay pa lamang o “finished product” na, meaning, tapos na pelikula. 

Natural, ang malalaking film outfits ay screenplay submission muna ang ipinaglalaban. 

Pero sa experience nga ng MMFF sa mga nakaraang taon, may ibang nakapasang scripts na nababago ang casting, lalo na, ang kuwento mismo, at ewan kung bakit hinayaan ito ng previous execom.

Ilan lamang ito sa mga “kapalpakan” ng previous execom hanggang sa sumabog ang nakakalokang eskandalo sa Honor Thy Father, na naging hudyat sa pagbuwag ng orihinal na execom, at umabot na sa congressional hearings.

Wala na ring MMFF New Wave (bago ang Pasko), kundi laban-laban na ang mainstream at indie films sa Magic 8 official entries ng MMFF na magisimula sa December 25. 

Puwede naman talaga ang “mixture” ng mainstream/ commercial films with that of independently produced quality films tuwing MMFF, tulad noong 1970s and ‘80s.

Kung magkaroon man ng New Wave section (na limang taong namayagpag sa panahon ni former MMDA chairman na si Francis Tolentino) ay short films and animation na lamang ang categories nito.

As of press time ay marami pang dapat ayusin at pag-usapan ang bagong set ng MMFF committee and umaasa ang sambayanan na maging maayos na ang pamamalakad dito simula ngayong taon.
