Umaasa si Senator Grace Poe na bibigyang-halaga ng Supreme Court (SC) ang pananaw ni Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno na ang mga “foundling”, tulad ng senadora, ay natural-born Filipino.
Ito ay bilang reaksiyon sa binitiwang pahayag ni Sereno sa oral argument ng SC na dapat ituring ang mga foundling o sanggol na napulot bilang “natural born citizen.”
“I hope that the public and those who will make a final judgment on my case will see things in this light,” ayon kay Poe.
Ito ay sa gitna ng pagpapatuloy ng pagdining ng SC kaugnay sa mga petisyong kumukuwestiyon sa citizenship at residency requirement sa pagtakbo ng senadora sa pagkapangulo sa eleksiyon sa Mayo 9.

“If we are going to say that a foundling is not a natural-born Filipino citizen then foundlings in this country cannot hold any of those thousands of offices that were enumerated on the screen,” ayon kay Sereno.
“Why can’t the court let things be the way they are? Not deprive foundlings of their rights. Because the moment that the court says that foundlings are not either citizens, not natural-born citizens or are stateless, this will be a degradation of rights that they are already enjoying right now,” paliwanag ni Sereno.
Ilang araw na lamang ang nalalabi pero wala pang desisyon ang SC kaugay sa kaso ni Poe. (LEONEL ABASOLA)
