Hindi nagtatapos ang anti-smuggling operation ng Bureau of Customs (BoC) sa pagkakasamsam ng P118-milyon halaga ng imported Thai rice na ipinarating sa Manila Port nang walang kaukulang permit.
Ito ay matapos mapigil ng Manila International Container Port (MICP)-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service ang panibagong pagtatangka ng Calumpit Multi-Purpose Cooperative na magpasok ng karagdagang 25 container ng smuggled Thai rice.
“The shipment arrived last January 24, but this was alerted by the Intelligence Group,” ayon kay MICP-CIIS officer-in-charge Roberto Salvacion.
Tulad ng P118-milyon halaga ng illegally imported rice na unang nasamsam sa MICP, wala rin umanong import permit ang 25 container ng Thai rice mula sa National Food Authority (NFA).

Nitong Biyernes, personal na ininspeksiyon nina Customs Commissioner Alberto Lina at NFA Administrator Renan Dalisay ang P118-milyon halaga ng Thai rice sa MICP compound na dumating sa Port of Manila noong Nobyembre 24 hanggang Disyembre 12.
Itinuturing ito ng Customs authorities na “biggest haul” ng illegally imported rice na nakumpiska ng ahensiya ngayong taon.
“These were not issued import permits by NFA because the consignee was not able to settle the NFA fees,” ayon kay Salvacion.
Lumitaw din sa mga dokumento ng BoC Intelligence Group na ang mga shipment ng Calumpit Multi-Purpose Cooperative, na may address sa San Vicente, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, ay nahaharap sa apat na alert order ngayong buwan.
