Muling inakusahan ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang China ng paglabag sa international law dahil sa umano’y pagpapatayo nito ng karagdagang airstrip sa mga isla sa pinag-aagawang South China Sea.
Sinabi ni Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. na nagpapalala lamang sa tensiyon sa rehiyon ang mga itinatayong istruktura ng China sa lugar.
“Government is determined to assert the importance of freedom of navigation and over flight in the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea,” pahayag ni Coloma.
“The building of additional runways contributes to heightened tensions in the region. We reiterate that these actions by China violate not only pertinent international laws but also the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea of which China is a signatory along with the member countries of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations),” dagdag niya.

Aniya, tinututulan ng gobyerno ang pagsasagawa ng flight test sa bagong runway ng China sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs had filed a diplomatic protest regarding the test flights made on reefs also claimed by the Philippines particularly at Kagitingan Reef which is well within our exclusive economic zone,” ayon kay Coloma.
Iniulat ng isang think tank sa Amerika na ang konstruksiyon ng dalawang karagdagang airstrip ng China ay malapit nang makumpleto upang mapagtibay ang pag-aari nito sa lugar.
Ang dalawang bagong airstrip ng Beijing ay matatagpuan sa Mischief Reef at Subi Reef, ayon sa Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Una nang nagsagawa ng flight test sa runway na itinayo sa Fiery Cross Reef, na inabot ng halos pitong buwan upang makumpleto. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
