Naghain ng panukala si Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla na isama ang drug rehabilitation at treatment sa benepisyo ng PhilHealth at tanggapin ang mga drug dependent sa accredited health care provider ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC).
“While law enforcement against drug users and drug pushers must be implemented, the rehabilitation of the users is equally important,” ani Mercado-Revilla.
Binanggit niya ang huling statistics na inilabas ng Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) na tinatayang 1.7 milyong Pilipino ang gumagamit ng droga at iba pang illegal substance.
Aamyendahan ng hakbang ang Republic Act 7875 (“An Act instituting a National Health Insurance Program for all Filipinos and establishing the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation [PhilHealth] as amended by Republic Act 9241”) upang maisama ang drug dependency treatment sa benefit package ng PhilHealth na kabibilangan ng rehabilitation treatment ng drug dependent, room and board, at mga serbisyo ng health care professionals, prescription drugs at biologicals.
