Hiniling ni Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) Congressman Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na bigyan ng permanenteng pabahay ang mga maralitang pamilya imbes na hinahakot sila para sa “outreach activities” tuwing may malaking pagtitipon ng mga state leader sa bansa, tulad ng Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit sa Maynila.
Tinukoy din ni Gatchalian ang naging hakbang ni DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman nang dalhin ang mahigit sa 100 maralitang pamilya sa Chateau Royale Resort sa Nasugbu, Batangas nang bumisita sa bansa si Pope Francis noong Pebrero.
Aabot sa P4.75 milyon ang ginastos ng DSWD sa naturang camping activity, aniya.
Binigyang diin ng mambabatas mula Valenzuela City na ang misyon ng DSWD ay iangat ang kapakananan at iahon sa kahirapan ang mga maralita na karaniwang pinagsasamantalahan ng iba’t ibang sektor ng lipunan.

“Instead of just activities, why not take these homeless families off the streets for good? Isn’t it that the DSWD exists to make a lasting positive impact on those who need state intervention to rise from poverty, instead of merely holding an ‘outreach activity’ that coincides with events covered by international media?” tanong Gatchalian, senior vice chairman ng House Committee on Metro Manila Development at Committee on Housing and Urban Development.
Ayon sa ulat, isa pang outreach activity ang ikinakasa ng DSWD ngayong Nobyembre dahil, ayon kay Soliman, ay mas mapanganib para sa mga maralitang pamilya, lalo na ang kabataan, ang nananatiling palaboy sa mga lansangan.
“If the DSWD is really committed to serving the Filipino people, it would effectively protect homeless families from harm on the streets by giving them permanent shelters, not by taking them off the streets to attend activities when there are visits by foreign dignitaries. What does this say about agency that should prioritize social welfare and development, as its name suggests?” giit ng NPC congressman.
