Mas maraming kuwalipikadong overseas Filipino workers (OFW) ang magkakaroon ng tsansang punuin ang voter registration forms online.

Ito ay base sa desisyon ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) na palawigin ang kanilang iRehistro Project sa lahat ng Foreign Service Posts sa mundo.

Inaprubahan ng Comelec en banc, sa Minute Resolution No. 15-0147 noong Pebrero 24, 2015, ang rekomendasyon na ibinigay ng Department of Foreign Affairs Overseas Voting Secretariat (DFA-OVS) sa pagkupkop sa iRehistro Project sa lahat ng 85 Foreign Service Posts sa mundo.

Ginawa nina DFA-OVS Chairman Usec. Rafael E. Seguis at Philippine Ambassador to Spain His Excellency Carlos Salinas ang rekomendasyon kasunod ng matagumpay na pilot-testing ng online accomplishment ng voter registration forms sa embahada ng Pilipinas sa Madrid.

Sinabi ni Seguis na sa iRehistro Project ay binabawasan ang oras na kakailanganin para sa proseso ng pagpaparehistro sa kalahati at ang pagpupuno ng forms sa online ay “sufficient incentive” para sa mga potensiyal na magpaparehistro na piliin ang sistema ng iRehistro sa halip ang tradisyunal na voter registration.

“[iRehistro] will provide an alternative mode for potential registrants. In order to encourage new registrants, we have to offer them as many choices/options as possible so that they can select the mode of registration that best suits them. The iRehistro system is one such alternative, and a very attractive one at that,” sabi niya.

Binanggit din ng DFA-OVS chairman na ang iRehistro Project ay magagamit din ng mga Filipino seafarer. “If iRehistro is adopted for all Posts, those whose jurisdictions include ports where ships carrying Filipino seamen dock can expect a big jump in their registration figures,” aniya.

Sinabi ni Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez na dahil sa development na ito, inaasahan nila ang malaking overseas Filipino voter registration turnout sa paglawak ng iRehistro Project sa lahat ng Foreign Service Posts.
