Ipinag-utos ni Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin ang imbestigasyon sa umano’y iregularidad sa pagbili ng 21 refurbished na UH-1D helicopter na may inaprubahang budget na P1.26 bilyon.
“Upon the instruction of the secretary (Gazmin), the DND has . . . created an investigating committee to look into the matter,” sabi ni Department of National Defense (DND) Spokesman Peter Galvez.
Ito ay makaraang bigyang-diin ng kagawaran na hindi nito kukunsintihin ang anumang anomalya sa mga proyekto nito, idinagdag na “we have been transparent in all our BAC (bids and awards) activities.”
Sinabi ni Galvez na ang grupong mag-iimbestiga, na pangungunahan ni Undersecretary Pio Lorenzo Batino, ay bibigyan ng 90 araw para tapusin ang pagsisiyasat.

“We would also like to get to the bottom of it . . . although ngayon nakikita natin na ‘yung issue is internal problem ng Rice (RASI), sila-sila nagkaroon ng issue. Ngayon naiipit tayo (DND), tayo ‘yung collateral damage ng away nila,” aniya.
Sa press conference nitong Lunes, sinabi ni Defense Undersecretary for Finance, Munitions and Materiel Fernando Manalo na walang anomalya sa pagbili ng kagawaran ng 21 refurbished UH-1 helicopter.
“We never violated any regulation in the procurement law sa pagkakabili ng helicopter. We will never accept a delivery that is disadvantageous to the government and not compliant with the terms of reference enumerated,” aniya.
Ito ang inihayag ni Manalo sa harap ng mga alegasyon na ang P1.26-bilyon helicopter deal ay “tailor-fitter” para sa pinaborang bidder. - Elena L. Aben
