Makalipas ang 64 na taon, ititigil na ng Miss World—ang pinakamatagal nang international beauty pageant sa buong mundo—ang bikini at swimsuit competition sa taunang kompetisyon nito simula sa susunod na taon.
“We like bikinis, nothing wrong with them. But I’ll go for fitness, sports and things which are more pertaining to women today,” pahayag ni Julia Morley, chairperson ng Miss World Organization (MWO) sa kanyang pagbisita sa Maynila kamakailan.
“Swimsuit is not necessary. It is on the beach, but we are not on the beach. We are using things which have everyday activity....things to be more healthy and the girls are more comfortable,” dagdag ni Morley.
Nang banggitin na madidismaya ang fans sa kanilang desisyon, tugon ni Morley: “I’m sorry.... but I’m sure they will also see my reasoning.”

Ayon naman kay Cory Quirino, national director ng Miss World Philippines at Mister World Philippines, tinalakay na nila ang isyu sa London kamakailan.
Sinabi ni Quirino na magkakaroon ng “swimsuit-like presentation” subalit ito ay isasagawa sa malikhain at mahinhin na paraan tulad ng paggamit ng sarong ng mga contestant.
“Bibigyan namin sila ng saplot subalit makikita pa rin ang kanilang hubog,” ayon kay Quirino.
Dumalo sina Quirino at Morley sa pagbubukas ng P8-milyon Hematoloty-Oncology Ward na donasyon ng pilantropo na si Alice G. Eduardo, pangulo ng Sta.
