Pinangalanan ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang limang beteranong state prosecutors na hahawak sa posibleng kasong isasampa laban sa mga responsable sa engkuwentro noong Enero 25 sa Mamasapano, Maguindanao na ikinamatay ng 44 commando ng Philippine National Police–Special Action Force, 17 Moro Islamic Liberation Front, at tatlong sibilyan.
Sina ni Justice Secretary Leila de Lima noong Pebrero 6, na ang Joint Special Investigation Team mula sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at National Prosecution Service (NPS) ay bubuuin nina Assistant State Prosecutors Juan Paulo Navera, Irwin Maraya, Gino Paolo Santiago, Jocelyn Dugay, at Assistant Prosecution Attorney Ethel Rea Suril.
Binigyan ni De Lima ang NBI-NPS fact-finding panel ng 60-araw para isumite ang kanilang ulat at mga rekomendasyon.
Sila ay particular na inatasan “[to] evaluate, assess and determine the sufficiency of the evidence gathered, and guide the NBI as to what should further be gathered and explored in order to build a strong case for the possible eventual prosecution of the charges before the court.”
