Ang panibagong pasabog hinggil sa tangkang pagkubra ng komisyon ni dating Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado sa isang transaksiyon ng Alphaland Development, Inc. ay patunay lang na moro-moro ang imbestigasyon sa Senado sa mga kontrobersiyang ibinabato kay Vice President Jejomar Binay.
“Malinaw na lokohan na ang nangyayari dahil ang tao, na ayon sa Alphaland ay nanghingi ng kickback, ang siyang ginagamit na witness para siraan si Vice President Binay,” sabi ni Presidential Spokesperson for Political Affairs Rico Paolo Quicho.
Ibinunyag ni Alphaland President Mario Oreta sa pagdinig na tinangka ni Mercado noong Enero na pag-usapan ang transaksiyon ng Alphaland at ng Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) para sa proyekto sa Ayala Avenue.
Gayunman, nilinaw ni Oreta na si Mercado at hindi si VP Binay ang nakipagnegosasyon sa kasunduan ng Alphaland at BSP sa kanyang kapasidad bilang Senior Vice President at pinuno ng Asset Management Committee.

Inihayag pa nito na si Mercado ang “nakinabang” sa proyekto.
“I am sure you will remember that you made less than subtle hints that some ‘benefits’ were due to you for agreeing to conclude this project, and I am sure that you will also remember that I explained to you that Alphaland was a joint venture company with the Ashmore Group, and that every transaction was closely scrutinized by Ashmore,” dugtong nito.
Taliwas ito sa testimonya ni Mercado na ang transaksiyon sa Alphaland ang piinakamatagumpay na investment ng BSP. Batay sa Alphaland deal sa BSP, kumikita lang ito sa naturang proyekto sa interes na 15 porsiyento.
Samantala, inihayag ni Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag- IBIG fund) President at CEO Darlene Marie Berberabe sa Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee na hindi brinaso ni VP Binay upang makakuha ng kontrata ang OMNI Security Investigation and General Services, Inc. para sa kanyang bodyguard.
Ang OMNI rin ang kumpanya na kinuha ng Makati City government para sa security services nito noong alkalde pa ng siyudad si Vice President Jejomar Binay, ayon kay dating Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado.
“If the issue is whether…Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is the chairman of the Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees, used his power to get Omni into Pag-IBIG, I categorically say that no, this did not happen. Omni had in fact a chance to get a P193-million security service contract for 236 security guards for our NCR (National Capital Region) offices,” pahayag ni Berberabe.
