Ookupahan ng 15,000 miyembro ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang buong Rizal Memorial Sports Complex bilang bahagi sa pagtulong ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa pagseguro at pangangalaga sa kaligtasan sa pagdalaw ni Pope Francis sa bansa sa Enero 15 hanggang 19.
Sinabi ni PSC Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr. na isasara ang piling pasilidad sa 80-taong Rizal Memorial Sports Complex sa buong durasyon ng pagbisita ni Pope Francis para magamit sa mabilisang aksiyon sa pagkontrol at pagseguro sa kaligtasan ng Santo Papa at maging ng mga mananampalataya.
“The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex will be closed to public because of the logistical requirement of the PNP in ensuring the full security of the Pope,” sinabi ni Iroy Jr.
“The PSC through Chairman Richie Garcia approved the request of the PNP in their requirement to serve and ensure the full security of the Pope,” giit pa nito.

Gagamitin ng PNP ang buong Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Ninoy Aquino Stadium at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium bilang kanilang command center base habang binibigyan ng seguridad ang Santo Papa.
Nakatakda naman manatili si Pope Francis sa dating pinagtigilan ni Pope John Paul II sa Papal Nunciature na nasa Taft Avenue.
“It is our share and PSC’s contribution to the Papal Visit. We will assist the PNP in their requirement to serve the Pope and whatever they need,” dagdag pa ni Iroy Jr.
Hindi naman apektado ang national sports associations (NSAs) na nananatili sa sports complex at maging ng mga atletang naninirahan at nagsasanay para sa kanilang paglahok sa 28th Southeast Asian Games.
Gayunman, bunga ng pagkakasara sa RMSC ay iniurong ang mga laro sa baseball at softball sa UAAP. Nakatakdang magbukas ang softball sa Enero 24 sa isang triple-header habang kinabukasan magsisimula ang laro sa baseball na parehong gagawin sa Rizal Memorial Diamond.
