Ikinatuwa ni Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada ang desisyon ng Sandiganbayan na ibasura ang kahilingan ng tatlong mahistrado ng Fifth Division na mag-inhibit sa kaso ng plunder ng senador.

“I welcome the prompt action and disposition of the Sandiganbayan en banc on the request for recusal of the three justices who are hearing my case before the Fifth Division, as this means that my bail application, including the request for holiday furlough, can be resolved soon and decided upon without unwarranted delay,” pahayag ni Estrada.

“I hope that the case proceeds smoothly without any similar surprises which tend only to prolong the disposition of the case,” ayon sa mambabatas.

Unang lumiham si Fifth Division Chairman Associate Justice Roland Jurado; at mga miyembro na sina Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo at Ma. Theresa Estoesta kay Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang na mag-inhibit sa kaso dahil sa personal na kadahilanan.

Subalit sinabi ni Tang na walang nakitang sapat na dahilan ang anti-graft court upang pagbigyan ang kahilingan ng tatlo.

Si Estrada ay isa sa tatlong senador na nahaharap sa kasong pandarambong at katiwalian dahil sa umano’y pagkakasangkot ng mga ito sa P10 billion pork barrel fund scam matapos ilaan ang pondo sa mga pekeng non-government organization upang makakomisyon sa mga ilegal na transaksiyon ni Janet Lim-Napoles, itinuturong utak ng anomalya.

Si Estrada ay kasalukuyang nakadetine sa Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center kasama ang kapwa akusado nitong si Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.

Ang ikatlong senador na idinawit sa pork barrel scam ay si Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile na kasalukuyang naka-hospital arrest sa PNP General Hospital sa Camp Crame. - Hannah L. torregoza
