Muling binigyang diin ng China na ang Beijing ay may “indisputable sovereignty” sa Spratly Islands, na marami ang umaangkin, lalo na ang China at Pilipinas.

“I think anyone in the outside world has no right to make irresponsible remarks on China-related activities,” sabi ni Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying sa isang daily news briefing.

“The construction-related activities undertaken by China on the islands are primarily to improve the living conditions of personnel stationed there and to better fulfill our international responsibilities and obligations in terms of search and rescue and the provision of public services.”

Sinabi ng isang nangungunang defence publication noong Biyernes na ipinakita ng satellite images na ang China ay nagtatayo ng gusali sa isang isla sa reef sa Spratly Islands na ang lawak ay kaya nang paglagyan ng isang offshore airstrip.

“Vietnam and the Philippines should get used to China’s island-construction in the South China Sea,” sinabi ng Global Times, isang nationalist tabloid na pagaari ng Chinese Communist Party’s official newspaper, ang People’s Daily, sa isang editoryal.

“We hope that the U.S. can also get used to China’s more frequent presence in the seas.”
