Idineklara ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ang Nobyembre 8 bilang National Day of Prayer upang gunitain ang unang anibersaryo ng pananalasa ng super typhoon Yolanda sa Visayas.

Sa Circular na inisyu ni CBCP President at Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas noong Nobyembre 4, pagsapit ng 6:00 ng gabi ng Sabado ay sabay-sabay na magpapatunog ng mga kampana ang lahat ng simbahan sa bansa na susundan ng commemorative prayer.

“On Nov. 8, 2014, the Filipino nation will commemorate the anniversary of typhoon Yolanda that has ravaged the country’s Central Visayas region. Thus, we declare Nov. 8 this year as a National Day of Prayer, especially for the victims and survivors of the typhoon,” bahagi pa ng circular.

Ayon sa CBCP, magpapasalamat ang bansa dahil sa kabila ng trahedya ay hindi pa rin tayo pinabayaan ng Panginoon.

“In the most special way, You gifted us courage and strength to rise again. In the most loving way, You shielded us with mercy and compassion. And you accomplished miracles through those who came to our aid.

“And as we remember that day today, we thank You for the gift of faith, hope and love. We thank you for bringing us closer to you. We thank you for letting us live another day.

“Spare our nation from the wrath of nature, as we find ways to care for your Creation,” saad sa bahagi ng commemorative prayer ng CBCP.

Hinimok ni Villegas ang mga prelature, diocese, paaralan at mga organisasyon na magdaos ng sariling aktibidad para sa naturang okasyon.

Nobyembre 8, 2013 nang hagupitin ng bagyong Yolanda ang Visayas na ikinamatay ng mahigit 6,000 katao at halos 2,000 ang patuloy na nawawala. Bilyong halaga rin ng ari-arian ang nasira dahil sa naturang kalamidad.
