Lumagda ang iba’t ibang grupo ng doktor sa joint statement na kumokontra sa panukalang batas sa paggamit ng medical marijuana sa bansa.

“We oppose HB 4477. We cannot risk endangering the health and safety of the Filipino. We understand the concerns of patients who may potentially benefit from the use of marijuana for medical reasons. However, it is our moral and ethical responsibility to safeguard the safety of our patients,” pahayag ng mga doktor na karamihan ay miyembro ng Philippine Medical Association (PMA).

Ito ay bilang reaksiyon sa House Bill 4477 (Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Bill) na inihain ni Isabela 1st District Rep. Rodolfo Albano III na magre-regulate sa paggamit ng marijuana bilang gamot sa iba’t ibang uri ng karamdaman.

Bukod sa PMA, ang iba pang grupo na lumagda sa joint statement ay ang Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), Child Neurology Society of the Philippines (CNSP), Group for Addiction Psychiatry of the Philippines (GAPP), Pain Society of the Philippines, Philippine League Against Epilepsy Inc., Philippine Neurological Association, Philippine Psychiatric Association Philippine Society of Clinical and Occupational Toxicology (PSCOT), at UP-PGH National Poison Management and Control Center (NPMCC ).

Unang ipinanukala ng mga doktor ang pagtatatag ng task force na binubuo ng mga espesyalista at regulatory authorities na tututok sa importasyon ng mga marijuana plant extract at tiyakin na hindi ito magagamit sa ibang dahilan maliban sa research at regulasyon sa pagbibigay ng prescription sa paggamit nito.

Iginiit ni PCP President Dr. Anthony Leachon na dapat ay kabilang sa task force ang isang eksperto na mag-aaral upang matukoy kung epektibo ang medical cannabis sa pagsugpo ng iba’t ibang sakit. - Jenny F. Manongdo
