Hiniling ng mga komunidad sa Dupax Sur, Nueva Vizcaya na proteksiyunan ang isang 196-anyos na Dampol Arc Bridge, na kinumpuni noon pang panahon ng mga Kastila, laban sa road widening project ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sa lugar.

Itinuturing ng mga residente sa lugar na makasaysayan at isang mahalagang cultural landmark ang Dampol Arc Bridge na nag-uugnay sa mga barangay ng Dumang at Dopaj. Ito ay kinumpuni noong 1818 ng Kastilang pari na si Francisco Rocamora.

Manu-manong binuo ang mga pulang tisa at lumang adobe sa isang pagawaan malapit sa St. Vincent Ferrer Church sa maliit at tahimik na lugar ng Dupax. Ang Dampol Arc Bridge ay itinuturing na isa sa mga pinakaluma at makasaysayang tulay sa bansa.

Sa petisyon ni Analyn Salvador-Amores, ng Baguio City, sa global reform website na Change.org, nangangambang gumuho at tuluyan nang magiba ang tulay dahil sa road widening ng DPWH-Nueva Vizcaya 2nd District Engineering sa Dupax.

“The Isinay community is pleading for your kind support to help save this important cultural heritage. This indiscriminate and blatant disregard for historical and cultural heritage hurts us. We hope and pray that the Dampol Bridge will be preserved, not only for the Dupax, but also as part of the Filipino national heritage,” ayon sa petisyon ni Amores.

Habang sinusulat ang ulat na ito, umabot na sa 874 ang lumagda.
