Iniulat ng Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) ang pagbaba ng bilang ng mga Pinoy domestic worker na nagtutungo sa Qatar.
“I have received a report from Labor Attaché Leopoldo De Jesus who is assigned in Qatar saying that based on the verified individual employment contracts and job orders, the deployment of Filipino domestic workers to that country has been on the downtrend during the last three years,” saad sa pahayag ni Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz.
Base sa ulat ni De Jesus, mula sa 33,303 beripikadong employment contract para sa mga domestic worker noong 2012, malaki ang ibinaba ng bilang nito sa 3,967 noong 2013.
Ito ay kinumpirma ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) na nagsabing ang kabuuang bilang ng mga domestic worker na bagong-salta sa Qatar ay umabot sa 18,018, habang ang 1,314 ay mga muling kinontrata.

Sinabi ng DoLE na hindi lahat ng beripikadong employment contract at job order ay napunan.
Ipinaliwanag ni De Jesus na ang pagkaunti ng Pinoy domestic worker sa Qatar ay bunsod ng pagpapatupad ng gobyerno nito ng Household Service Workers Reform Package, na nagtatakda ng minimum salary na US$400 kada buwan.
Hinggil sa pagbaba ng bilang ng mga runaway o “istokwa” na nagtungo sa Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC), sinabi ni De Jesus: “From 1,502 wards accommodated in 2012, the number decreased to 1,170 in 2013. In the six-month period of 2014, this number went down farther to only 182.” - Raymund F. Antonio
