Handa ang mga mambabatas na sumailalim sa lifestyle check, naniniwalang “it will restore the people’s faith” sa mababang kapulungan.

Suportado ng House Deputy Majority Leaders na sina Citizens Battle Against Corruption (Cibac) Party-list Rep. Sherwin Tugna at Quezon City Rep. Bolet Banal ang panukalang lifestyle check sa Lehislatibo at kapwa siya sumang-ayon na “public office is a public trust.”

“House members, aside from the SALN, should be open and should welcome a lifestyle check. In doing so, we will restore the people’s faith in the House of Representatives,” sinabi ni Tugna makaraang mapaulat na isinasapinal na ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang proseso sa pagpapatupad ng full-scale lifestyle check sa lahat ng kawani at opisyal nito kasunod ng pagkakatuklas ng mga kuwestiyonableng ari-arian ng ilang pulis na sangkot sa kaso ng EDSA “hulidap”.

“Public office is a public trust, and we in the public sector can prove that we believe in this by making ourselves available to a lifestyle check if it is so required,” ani Banal.

Bagamat sang-ayon sa mga kapwa niya kongresista, ang magpapatupad naman ng lifestyle check sa mga mambabatas ang concern ni Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice.

“Well why not, but the question is the capability of agencies which will do the test,” aniya.

Suportado rin ni Parañaque City Rep. Gus Tambunting ang panukalang lifestyle check, sinabing “all public servants should be open to additional measures to increase accountability and transparency.”

Subalit isang lider ng Kongreso na tumangging pangalanan ang nasabing walang sinuman sa mababang kapulungan ang papasa sa “auditing scrutiny”.

“Never [sa lifestyle check], walang papasa. Huwag na tayong magbolahan, how can you have the bank accounts of all of us opened? The straight and righteous path and that public officials must be transparent are only good in press releases,” anang beteranong mambabatas.

Sa kanyang panig, sinabi naman ni AKO Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe, na hindi na kailangan pang sumailalim sa lifestyle check ang mga miyembro ng Kongreso dahil lahat sila ay “subject to different checks and balances” ng media at ng iba pang auditing agencies.
