BURGAS – Nasungkit ng mga estudyanteng Pinoy ang 33 medals at awards sa 2018 Bulgaria International Mathematics Competition (BIMC) na ginanap sa Burgas, Bulgaria, mula Hulyo 1 hanggang 6.
Ayon sa Mathematics Trainers Guild Philippines (MTG), nanalo ang Pilipinas ng isang gold, apat na silver at 11 bronze medals, at siyam na merit awards sa individual competition.
Sa team at group contests, nakuha ng Bansa ang isang kampeonato, dalawang runners-up at limang second runners-up trophies.
Ang Grade 6 student na si Ethan Jared Chan ng British School Manila ang nag-uwi ng gold medal para sa bansa.
Silver medallists naman sina John Florence Dizon, Calamba Elementary School; Lance Heinrich Lim, Saint Jude Catholic School; Jose Lorenzo Abad, Philippine Science High School-Main; at Stephen James Ty, Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.
Ang bronze medals ay nakuha nina Sean Kendrick Yeo, PACE Academy; Armea Helena Sien Dimayacyac, Notre Dame of Greater Manila; Frederick Ivan Tan, Philippine Science High School-Main; Gregory Charles Tiong, Saint Jude Catholic School; Naomi Anne King, Saint Jude Catholic School; Maria Monica Manlises, St. Stephen’s High School; Ralde Anuel Bautista, MGC New Life Christian Academy; Sarji Elijah Bona, Palawan Hope Christian School; Sted Micah Cheng, Hope Christian High School; Vanessa Ryanne Julio, Saint Jude Catholic School; at Justin Teng Soon Khoo, Regional Science High School III.
Ang merit awards ay iniuwi nina Dillion Keller Chan, UNO High School; Alexandra Brianne Gochian, Saint Jude Catholic School; Krystal Lim Tiong Soon, Grace Christian College; Ambrose James Torreon, Rainbow of Angels; Benjamin Jacob, St. Philomena Academy of Lipa; Dominic Lawrence Bermudez, Philippine Science High School- Main; Annika Angela Mei Tamayo, Ateneo de Iloilo; at International Girls’ Team A’s Angelene Erika Madrazo, Zamboanga Chong Hua High School at Trisha Danielle Sia, Chiang Kai Shek College.
Ang Philippine Team B sa high school division ay binubuo nina Abad, King, Manlises at Ty na nag-champion sa group contest at second runner-up sa team contest.
Nakuha nina Tamayo, Khoo, Julio at Bermudez ang first runner-up sa team contest habang nagwagi rin si Madrazo ng first runner-up bilang miyembro ng International Girls’ Team A.
Nanalo ng second runner-up sa team contest sina Benn Jethro Sia ng Kong Hua School, Jence Enrico Dela Fuente ng Ateneo de Naga University Grade School, Marco Erano Dumale ng De La Salle University-Laguna, Dillion Keller Chan, Ethan Jared Chan, Yeo, Dimayacyac, Dizon, Jacob, Lim, Tan, Tiong at Sia.
Kabuuang 28 bansa at teritoryo ang kasama sa contest. Ang mga ito ay Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cyprus, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam at Zimbabwe.
Ang Philippine delegation sa contest ay sinamahan ng team leaders na sina Dr. Simon Chua, Dr. Isidro Aguilar, Dr. Jonathan Glorial, Minerva Avecilla, Arvie Ubarro, at Renard Eric Chua, pawang taga-MTG.
