Bagamat isang linggo na lang ang nalalabi sa kanyang panunungkulan sa Malacañang, tiniyak ng kampo ni Pangulong Aquino na rerespetuhin nito ang ano mang magiging desisyon ng United Nations Arbitral Tribunal hinggil sa isyu ng umano’y panghihimasok ng China sa West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).
Sinabi ni Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. na handa ang Pilipinas na tanggapin ang ano mang desisyon na ilalabas ng UN sa maritime dispute sa West Philippine Sea.
“We believe that freedom of navigation and freedom of overflight are essential elements in ensuring the free flow of global commerce and this is the position that has been adopted by ASEAN in successive summits since three or four years ago. This is the principle embodied in the Declaration on the Code of Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea,” giit ni Coloma.
“As far as the Aquino administration is concerned, we will just adhere to the principles of international law. We have agreed with all the other nations of ASEAN in the last ASEAN-US Summit that the rule of law must prevail. But we can only speak for what this government will do until June 30, 2016 because at noon of that day, a new administration will take over the reins of our foreign policy,” pahayag ng opisyal sa kanyang pagdalo sa ika-118 anibersaryo ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Subalit pagkatapos ng Hunyo 30, binigyang-diin ni Coloma na hahayaan na ni Pangulong Aquino ang incoming Duterte administration na tugunan ang isyu.
Inaasahang lalabas na sa mga susunod na araw ang desisyon ng international tribunal sa agawan ng teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea, kaya nanawagan ang gobyerno ng Amerika sa China na respetuhin ang magiging desisyon ng UN.
